The first edition has become a very popular guide in ophthalmology. The text is intended for any physician who treats ophthalmic diseases. It is especially good for postgraduate ophthalmology trainees, optometrists, and general practitioners. The book consists of 14 chapters that cover all subspecialties in ophthalmology including cataract surgery, ocular oncology, and strabismus. The book ends with 10 appendices for important notes, tables, and figures that does not fall under any of the book chapters. The chapters are well structured and nicely framed. One merit of the book is that the basic science of every subspecialty is within the same chapter of the subspecialty itself. I believe this insures a smooth flow of information, and I am glad that they maintained the same structure in this edition. Every chapter ends with a (optometry and general practice guidelines) section, which I believe to be very useful not only for optometrists and for general practitioners, but for fresh graduates going through their first ophthalmology on calls as well. Most of the key studies were nicely addressed, although not all were thoroughly covered. The editors and authors have successfully transformed a very rich informative content into an easy to read concise text. The book is easy to carry around. The illustrations and images are clear and well printed. A well-framed table of contents makes it easy to search for a certain information, although a color-coded demarcation would have made it even easier. Therefore, overall it is certainly a good buy for the targeted audience, and would be of considerable value for medical students and ophthalmology trainees. * Copyright: © Saudi Medical Journal This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
