Highlights

  • Subjects with non O-group genotype show increased venous thromboembolic risk.

  • Such increased risk ranges from 20% to 35%.

  • The risk is higher for patients with non-O blood group, and with A-allele.

  • The underlying mechanism is still unknown.

  • Blood group determination could be useful to evaluate thrombophilic risk.
